David M. Bayne’s remarkable 42-year career in hospitality began humbly in 1966 as a houseman at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
He became General Manager at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise through dedication and professionalism, leaving an indelible mark on Banff National Park’s tourism industry. Known for his leadership, work ethic, and mentorship, David inspired countless hospitality professionals throughout his career.
In tribute to his enduring impact, the David M. Bayne Legacy Fund was established by industry partners, including Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the Banff & Lake Louise Hospitality Association, and the Banff Canmore Foundation. This fund aims to support post-secondary students facing barriers to advancing their careers in tourism and hospitality within Banff National Park. Over a 10-year period, the fund will provide a minimum of four $5,000 bursaries annually, symbolically reflecting David’s 42-year career.

Ideal candidates are those pursuing educational goals in tourism and/or hospitality, with a demonstrated personal or professional connection to Banff and Lake Louise. Applicants may be entering their first year of post-secondary studies or continuing education beyond that. The fund seeks individuals who embody the values David championed: leadership, hard work, and professionalism.
