Giving Tuesday: Kindness is the Currency That Connects Us

Where Generosity Grows, Community Thrives

In a world that often feels divided and busy, kindness still finds a way. It shows up quietly in small, ordinary moments. A smile from a familiar or new face. A moment of warmth that says you belong here. Or it could be donating a warm jacket that no longer fits. Volunteering after school. Buying someone coffee on a cold morning.

These are the moments that make up Giving Tuesday, this year on December 2, a day the globe has dedicated to generosity in all its forms.

What It’s Really About

Giving Tuesday isn’t just about donations. It’s about offering something of yourself. Your time. Your talent. Your voice. Your care or maybe gratitude.

It’s about showing up for your community and remembering that every act of kindness counts. Whether it’s helping a local charity, mentoring a young person, checking in on a friend, or giving to a cause you believe in, each gesture strengthens the invisible threads that hold our valley together.

Your Act of Kindness Matters

At Banff Canmore Foundation, generosity grows when kindness takes root. When you give through BCF, you help sustain the organizations and programs that keep our valley thriving. You help create space for empathy, opportunity, and a sense of belonging.

But your impact doesn’t have to start with a dollar. It can start with a conversation, a gesture, or simply learning more.

A Global Movement with a Local Touch

Giving Tuesday began as a global movement, but local champions carry its impact. Here in the Bow Valley, our former Executive Director Lorraine Widmer-Carson is helping bring that spirit to life, reminding us that giving is most powerful when it reflects our community’s needs and relationships.

If you feel inspired to give this Giving Tuesday, consider supporting the people, places, and shared future that sustain the Bow Valley.

Here are a few ideas:

1. Support the BCF Community Fund

Give where it’s needed most. The Community Fund enables BCF to respond to emerging priorities across the Bow Valley, from supporting youth and environmental initiatives to helping local charities adapt and thrive. Your gift is distributed to the community through the BCF Community Grants, enabling the organization to respond quickly when our community needs it most.

2. Find a Fund That Matches Your Impact

Several local organizations are running matching campaigns this season. For example, the Canmore Public Library’s Growing Our Library, Growing Our Community campaign is matching donations to expand access and programs for residents. Doubling your gift doubles your impact.

3. Give to a Cause Close to Your Heart

Think of what makes this valley special to you. Maybe it’s the trails you hike, the arts that bring people together, or the food programs that make sure everyone has a seat at the table. A donation to a local charity working in that space is a powerful act of gratitude.

Whether it’s through your time, your care, or your financial support, every gesture helps the Bow Valley stay connected, creative, and compassionate.

Together, We Can Make the Valley Stronger

On December 2, join people across the world who are leading with kindness. Let’s show that in the Bow Valley, generosity is more than a single act. It is a way of living.
